The city of Durango (formally: Victoria de Durango) is the capital of the State of Durango, Mexico, located at 24.03°N, 104.67°W.
The city was founded in 1563. In the Spanish colonial era it was the capital of the Nueva Viscaya province of New Spain, including the present day Mexican states of Durango and Chihuahua.
In 2003 the city of Durango had a population of 430,000 people.
The City of Durango has the largest concentration of population in La Plata County and serves as the county seat.
