Dushore is a borough located in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 663.


Geography

Dushore is located at 41°31'31" North, 76°23'60" West (41.525227, -76.399924)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.3 km˛ (0.9 mi˛). 2.3 km˛ (0.9 mi˛) of it is land and 1.12% is water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 663 people, 341 households, and 150 families residing in the borough. The population density is 290.9/km˛ (754.3/mi˛). There are 395 housing units at an average density of 173.3/km˛ (449.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the borough is 97.74% White, 0.15% African American, 1.21% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 0.15% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 341 households out of which 21.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 30.8% are married couples living together, 8.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 56.0% are non-families. 51.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 27.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.94 and the average family size is 2.93.


In the borough the population is spread out with 21.0% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 23.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 79.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 78.2 males.


The median income for a household in the borough is $26,635, and the median income for a family is $41,563. Males have a median income of $31,042 versus $21,125 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $17,448. 14.4% of the population and 9.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.1% of those under the age of 18 and 17.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The park is located on Pennsylvania Route 154 in the narrow, serpentine valley of the Loyalsock Creek.
The history of the park goes back to 1929, when the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters, a precursor to the modern Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, began purchasing land devastated by logging and wild fire to create a state forest.
In 1933, four Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps were built in Sullivan County; Camp S-95 in Laporte built many of the park facilities, such as the swimming area and dam, the cabins, hiking trails and roads.
