Dwarves were once called Earthen created by the Titans to help build and shape the world of Azeroth. After the Titans departed the Earthen remained on the new world and went into a deep hibernation within their great halls. Thousands of years later the Earthen awoke, only to find that they had changed. They were no longer immortal and there stone skin had softened to become flesh. Also their powers of rock had waned.

The Dwarves awoke from the hall of Uldaman(now a instance dungeon) and began wandering. They finally settled in the snowy regions of Khaz Modan. There they founded the city of Ironforge and began their life anew.

The Dwarves in Warcraft are mostly divided into 3 major clans. The Bronzebeard clan who live within Ironforge, The Wildhammer Clan who reside in Aerie Peak within the Hinterlands, and the Dark Iron clan who are evil and serve a firelord in Blackrock.
