The reasons for men becoming dyke tykes vary. Some find that they relate to lesbians more easily than to other people; their relationships with other men are strained by underlying concerns of masculinity and machismo, while their relationships with straight women are complicated by sexual tension. The phenomenon of dyke tykes is not as well-known as that of fag hags. It is unclear whether this is because friendships are less common between men and lesbians than they are between women and gay men or because those friendships are just given less attention.
