At one time the city's Guildhall, the building was renovated during Swansea's time as European City of Literature for use as a literary centre, and renamed "Ty LlĂȘn" ("house of literature"). When the original celebrations were over, it was re-designated as the "Dylan Thomas Centre".


It was opened in 1995 by American ex-President Jimmy Carter, one of the world's most famous Dylan Thomas enthusiasts (others include Bob Dylan), and now houses a permanent exhibition on the life and work of Dylan Thomas, as well as a restaurant and bar, a cafe bookshop, conference rooms and a small lecture theatre. 1995 (MCMXCV) was a common year starting on Sunday of the Gregorian calendar. ...
