Dylan was doing business work for Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis). Paul convinced him to set up his friend Roo to be arrested by the police in an attempted robbery of "Scarlet Bar". When Sky and he tried to save some animals that had been poisoned in the contaminated Lassiter's Lake, he then got poisoned himself, and was now more susceptible to cancer and other ailments. After some help from Paul Robinson, Sky and he, with the help of other residents, managed to bring down Affirmacon, a corporation Paul was originally working with. Affirmacon were planning to buy out Ramsay Street so they could build a shopping centre on the land, using a fabricated report saying Ramsey Street would be flooded by 2010. After Affirmacon's fall, Paul was pushed into a swamp by Affirmacon henchmen. Sky and Dylan found him, it was assumed he was in cardiopulmonary arrest because Sky initiated CPR. After recently being involved in the plane crash at sea, Dylan attempted to stage his own death by avoiding the search and rescue teams in an attempt to start a new life after being charged with armed robbery under duress. He made his way back to Erinsborough, and revealed himself at his own wake when he discovered that his brother was likely to be imprisoned too, because he had not blamed the robbery all on Dylan. Dylan and his father Kim (Brett Swain) started a small food business called Dyl-Dogs as a challenge from Paul to double $2000; however, he later gave his business to his father to take over as head chef and manager at Lucinda's café. Dylan was asked by Sky to pose completely naked for her so she could present a life-drawing to her art class and was very reluctant, despite the fact he brags about his love of being naked. He wasn't pleased with the picture and claimed it made him look like "a little boy". He then made his appendage bigger, which annoyed Sky, and when asked to pose for another sketch, he was caught naked in the General Store by Harold, David and the entire Salvation Army. Since Paul's acquisition of The General Store, Dylan has been co-managing both The Store and Lucinda's, with notable focus of his attention being placed on the former. He then severed his ties with Paul when he was framed by his evil son Robert for an accident in which some shelves nearly crushed Elle (Pippa Black). To make matters worse he then found that Sky had slept with her art teacher, and dumped her. He then started as a chef at the Scarlet Bar. After Dylan's split from Sky, Sky then found herself pregnant and unsure whether the father was Dylan or her art teacher JP. When she discovered that Dylan was the father, he wouldn't let her speak to him, thinking she was just trying to get back together. In this time Dylan began a relationship with Elle. Sky decided to have an abortion, relieving Dylan, but didn't end up going through with it. She decided to keep the baby, giving Dylan no choice in the matter. He resented this, feeling he was not ready or good enough to be a father.

Elle warned Dylan that Sky was just playing him to get him back and Dylan realised he still loves Sky. Dylan told Elle that he was considering getting back with Sky (it was, he felt, best for the baby). Elle became scared that she would "lose him" and, with encouragement from her father, lied to Dylan (and eventually everyone else), telling him she had a serious illness. Dylan felt terrible and doted on Elle.

Dylan was, for a long time, unaware that he was not the father of Sky's baby. His brother Stingray was the biological father. When Sky confessed that Dylan was not the father he stormed off, later on he returned to Sky and said he would forgive her if she promised him that something like this would never happen again, she then confessed that Stingray was the father, this crushed Dylan he ended his engagement to Sky. Dylan found Stingray and invited him for a boy's night out in the city. He took Stingray to a tower and angrily told him that the baby was his, Dylan then denounced Scott as his brother and walked off. In order to avoid Stingray at work, Dylan quit his job as a chef at the Scarlet Bar and found a new career as a shareholder in Lassiter's Hotel. This sent him back into Elle's arms. Thinking that fatherhood can save Stingray from his drinking, Sky goes to Lassiters Hotel to find him, but a mix-up occurs at reception and Sky finds herself in the wrong hotel room and face-to-face with Dylan and Elle kissing each other. The trauma of the moment overwhelms Sky and she leaves Lassiter's crying, she sits on a bench and was spotted by Teresa. Sky was then attacked by a stabbing pain in her stomach, she was taken back to hospital when Dr. Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) announces she has gone into premature labour. Sky was wheeled into the delivery room, Harold, Janelle & Loris arrive and provide Sky with the support she needs and with one last push the baby was finally born, in honour of Sky's deceased mother she decides to call her daughter Kerry (Claudine Henningsen). Later it was revealed that Karl got his dates wrong and that Dylan was Kerry's biological father, not Stingray. After Dylan proved that Kerry was his he decided to fight for full custody rights, but abandoned the idea. His relationship with Stingray was now starting to heal. Dylan has been dating Elle non-exclusively and has been quite dismissive of her, recently she has dumped him after she got fed up of being abused by Dylan. Dylan and Sky recently shared a kiss but both of them felt that there was not a spark there anymore and are now mutually repulsed by one another but remain friends. Dylan then started to work for Elle's affections. In an attempt to win her back Dylan asked Elle what he could do, she said turn up at the Lassiter's board meeting naked, Dylan rose to the challenge and won her heart back. But their happiness didn't last long whilst on a Valentine's Day retreat Ned Parker (Daniel O'Connor) (who did so as a favor to Paul) got Dylan drunk and placed him at Carmella Cammeniti's bedside to make it appear as the two spent the night together, and in succession broke Dylan and Elle up. Dylan has started to deal with Sky and Stingray dating each other, though he was finding it difficult. After a medical appointment Kerry was diagnosed with leukemia and urgently needed a bone marrow transplant. After learning that his bone marrow would be unsuitable for Kerry due to contamination from being involved with Affirmacon, Dylan went to confront Paul and accuses him of causing Kerry's leukemia after he showed no sympathy, Dylan punched him to the ground. However his brother Stingray’s bone marrow was a perfect match for Kerry; because of this Dylan and Stingray formed a stronger bond. Stingray died days after, due to complications after the surgery. Later that day, Dylan kidnapped Paul, blaming him for Stingray's death. He took him deep into the bush and eventually pushed him off a cliff. Paul managed to hang on to the cliff, and Dylan, who regretted his attempt on Paul's life, pulled him to safety. Paul thanked Dylan for saving his life, but Dylan replied that he wasn't saving Paul, he was saving himself. But when Boyd Hoyland appeared his temper got out of control again, afterwards he begged Steiger to arrest him but Steiger said that he had other plans for Dylan's salvation.
