EROS satellites are high performance, low cost, light, highly maneuverable high-resolution observation satellites. The satellites' light weight and rigidity allows a quick and stable repointing of it's line of sight allowing fast maneuvering between targets. The ImageSat International constellation of satellites will provide the most frequent daily revisit of any site around the world.
Satellite Tracking Animation: When the satellite enters the coverage area of a ground receiving station (shown), it directs its antenna towards the station antenna to enable an X-band video communication. The satellite performs the imaging tasks for that particular footprint , based on a tasking program uploaded by the Ground Control Station. The ground receiving station receives the video signal data from the satellite, processes it and stores the resulting image data in a local archive.
EROS satellites are light, low earth orbiting, high-resolution satellites that are designed for fast maneuvering between imaged targets. There are two classes of EROS satellite, A and B. EROS A weighed 250 kg at launch and orbit at an altitude of 480 km at a sun synchronous orbit ensuring that all images are taken at the same local time at each pass. EROS A carries a camera with a focal plane of CCD (Charge Coupled Device) detectors producing a standard image resolution of 1.8 m and an Over sampled resolution of 1.0 m at a swath of 12.7 km at Nadir for the standard resolution. The data transmission rate is 70 Mbit/s the minimum expected lifetime of EROS A satellite is seven years.
