 Seal of Eastern Washington University Eastern Washington University is a comprehensive university located in Cheney, Washington. As of winter 2005, it has an enrollment of 9,232.

History
EWU got started in 1882 by a $10,000 grant from industrialist Benjamin P. Cheney
Sports Eastern's sports mascot is the Eagle, and their colors are red and white. EWU athletic teams participate in the Big Sky Conference at the NCAA Division I (I-AA for football) level.
