EX Delta Species is the twenty-seventh set in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It comes after EX Legend Maker and before EX Holon Phantoms in Japan, but everywhere else it comes after EX Unseen Forces and before EX Legend Maker. This is due to the order of the sets' release being switched, causing EX Delta Species to come before EX Legend Maker in English and disrupting its chronological sequence, causing the other translations to follow this anomaly. Its symbol is Holon Tower, a structure resembling a salt shaker. It has a tall cylindrical body, what looks like a massive roof, and two buttresses at its base. The EX part of its title comes from the presence of Pokémon-ex in the set. The Delta Species part is a indication that this is the first set in the card game to prominently feature the "Delta Species," an enigmatic group of Pokémon. (EX Legend Maker had a Pikachu 'Delta' as an introduction to the Delta Pokémon, but it was the only Delta card in the set and is obtainable only by buying booster packs in bulk.) EX Delta Species tells the second part of the story about the fictional Holon region. The explorers have found a suitable field in the forst and finished construction of a massive laboratory on it, which they call Holon Tower. The crew have one mission: To find the elusive Mew and study what they can of it. However, the electromagnetic radiation generated by Holon Tower has been distorting the genetics of the nearby Pokémon, giving them new Pokémon types and many of them a metallic quality. Most of the wild Pokémon have yet to get affected, though the Pokémon the Holon citizens have brought with them have become immediately affected. This story is unique to the card game, though it does reference the expedition into a forest to find Mew in Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back. Biochemistry laboratory at the University of Cologne. ... The cards in this set reflect this segment of the story too. A good deal of the Pokémon in this set are Delta Pokémon, all of whom are closely associated with Holon Tower, illustrated in the background. Introduced in this set are Pokémon belonging to Holon Tower staff, who are directly portrayed in the Supporter cards. Unlike the explorers in EX Legend Maker, these people are either people of science, as with Holon Scientist and Holon Researcher, or ordinary people who have chosen to live near Holon Tower, as with Holon Farmer and Holon Lass. The mutation of the Pokémon is not quite so extensive yet--full transformation has only been spotted in Legendary Pokémon and Dragon-type Pokémon (with a few exceptions). All other Delta Pokémon usually only achieve that state in their highest evolution and retain their natural types with the Metal type added in. This set is rather distinguished from other sets in that it seems to follow many patterns of its own.

General

A pattern to this set's illustrations is that nearly every original card in this set contains Holon Tower in the background or features Holon Tower itself, whether it's a Pokémon, Trainer, or even Energy, regardless of its illustrator. Holon Tower can be easily identified: It's a tall stone tower with plenty of vegetation and often a group of red-roofed buildings around it. Oddly, Holon Tower usually has thunderbolts connecting its roof to electrodes on the ground (not to be confused with the Pokémon named Electrode). An electrode is a conductor used to make contact with a nonmetallic part of a circuit (e. ... Electrode (マルマイン Marumine in Japanese, Lektrobal in German and Electrode in French) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise. ...

Pokémon

While EX Legend Maker introduced the Delta Species, EX Delta Species established this group as a solid category of Pokémon. It's a complement to the Dark Pokémon from EX Team Rocket Returns in at least two different ways: Dark Pokémon make good use of Darkness Energy due to their blending with the Dark-type, and Delta Pokémon make good use of Metal Energy due to their blending with the Metal-type. Also, whereas Pokémon become Dark out of the darkness of an obviously evil organization, Team Rocket, Pokémon become Delta Species out of light (electromagnetic radiation) from an organization that's presumably good, the Holon science team. A Delta Pokémon in this set is expected to carry the Metal-type and, depending on the Pokémon, either its regular type or an entirely different type altogether. Certain cards are specially designed for Delta Pokémon, and because the caption "Delta Species" is not part of its title, it can evolve to and from an ordinary Pokémon. The rules determining Pokémon types for Delta Pokémon dont necessarily carry over to EX Holon Phantoms.

Every Pokémon belonging to the Holon science team, indicated by having "Holon's" in its name, can be converted into an Energy card. How much Energy it's worth depends on whether it has fully evolved or not. Holon's Magnemite and Holon's Voltorb can be used as 1 Colorless Energy. Their evolved forms are substabntially more powerful (see below). An Energy card is one of the three categories of cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the other two being Pokémon cards and Trainer cards. ... Magnemite is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise. ... Voltorb (ビリリダマ/Biriridama in Japanese, Voltoball in German and Voltorbe in French) is a fictional character of the Pokémon franchise. ...

Trainers

EX Delta Species introduces a number of people living in and around Holon Tower. While the Supporter cards representing them are varied in their purposes, all Supporters in this set require the user to discard a card in order to use them. (The benefit is that these cards are more powerful than normal Supporters.) Also, every Supporter in this set starts with the word "Holon." (This is probably to bring Holon Transceiver to its maximum potential; see below on its uses.)

Notable cards

There are ten forms of Ditto in this set. Like Unown and Deoxys, Ditto is interchangeable with any other Ditto in its deck. This may well be more unpredictable than the Unown from EX Unseen Forces, since Ditto can change its Pokémon type as well as its attacks. Ditto (メタモン Metamon in Japanese, Ditto in German and Metamorphe in French) is a fictional being in the Pokémon franchise, known as the resident shape-shifter in the Pokemon world. ... Unown(アンノーン Annon in Japan, Icognito in Germany and Zarbi in France) is a fictional, unidentified being in the Pokémon franchise. ... Deoxys (デオキシス Deokishisu in Japan, also called Deoxys in Germany and France) is a fictional character in the Pokémon franchise. ...

Dragonite 'Delta' can extract one Lightning Energy card from the discard pile directly onto a Benched (inactive) Pokémon per turn. Dragonite (カイリュー Kairyu in Japan, Dragoran in Germany and Dracolosse in France) is a fictional dragon Pokémon, from the Pokémon franchise. ... An Energy card is one of the three categories of cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the other two being Pokémon cards and Trainer cards. ...

Holon's Electrode may substitute for 2 Energy of any type though an Energy card attached to the target Pokémon must be brought back to the player's hand. Because it counts as a Pokémon card in the deck and the discard pile, it's much easier to find and reuse it than most Special Energy cards. Electrode (マルマイン Marumine in Japanese, Lektrobal in German and Electrode in French) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise. ... An Energy card is one of the three categories of cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the other two being Pokémon cards and Trainer cards. ...

Flareon ex immediately Burns and Confuses the Defending Pokémon (the opponent's main Pokémon) when played from the hand, which obviously leaves that adversary partially incapacitated. Flareon (ブースター Booster in Japanese, Flamara in German, and Pyroli in French) is a fictional species of the Pokémon franchise. ...

Holon Energy FF has extra benefits if certain basic Energy are attached to the Pokémon Holon Energy FF is attached to: If there's a Fire Energy, the Pokémon's Weakness is eliminated; if there's a Fighting Energy, the Pokémon's attacks cut through Resistance. These effects are cumulative.

Holon Energy GL has extra benefits if certain basic Energy are attached to the Pokémon Holon Energy GL is attached to: If there's a Grass Energy, Special Conditions don't affect the Pokémon; if there's a Lightning Energy, it gets added defense agaisnt Pokémon-ex. These effects are cumulative. Moves are the techniques Pokémon use to battle. ...

Holon Energy WP has extra benefits if certain basic Energy are attached to the Pokémon Holon Energy WP is attached to: If there's a Water Energy, all effects of attacks done to it are nullified except damage; if it has Psychic Energy, it can retreat for free (normally, Energy must be discarded before a Pokémon can retreat). These effects are cumulative. To meet Wikipedias quality standards and the Pokémon Collaborative Projects article style, this Pokémon-related article or section may require cleanup. ...

Holon Farmer is unprecendented in the amount of cards a single Trainer can simultaneously pull out of the discard pile at six: 3 Pokémon cards and 3 basic Energy cards. The card to discard in order to use this Supporter can be one of the six cards to revive; thus, one can essentially bring five cards back into the deck without any net loss.

Holon Lass is very handy for a player who's running low on Energy. By discarding a card, Holon Lass taps into a certain amount of cards from the top of the deck (the precise amount depends on the situation when played) and pulls out as many Energy cards as the player needs. Since Special Energy cards can also come out of this, it's a reliable way to find them.

Holon Research Tower adds the Metal-type to every basic Energy card attached to a Delta Pokémon. This Stadium card completely eliminates the problem of finding Metal Energy and reusing them once discarded, particularly among Pokémon that require Metal Energy (see Salamence 'Delta' below). A Trainer card is one of the three categories of cards used in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the other two being Pokémon cards and Energy cards. ...

Holon Researcher is very useful among decks with many Delta Pokémon, as this card allows the user to search for any Delta Pokémon or a Metal Energy if the player is coming up short on them. Since many Delta Pokémon require Metal Energy, Holon Researcher can easily complete the pairing.

Holon Transceiver is an ordinary Trainer card that makes the Holon Supporters far more useful: It can put into the user's hand any Supporter with "Holon" in its name from either the deck or the discard pile. This means that as long as it isn't a Prize Card, no Holon Supporter the player has used or will use is out of reach.

Latias and Latios 'Delita' have high-damage attacks that require a large amount of Energy, but if both of them have been put into play by the same player, the Energy costs are substantially reduced. Latias (ラティアス Ratias in Japan, also Latias in Germany and France) is a fictional character in the Pokémon franchise. ... Latios (ラティオス Ratios in Japan, also Latios in Germany and France) is a fictional character in the Pokémon franchise. ...

Holon's Magneton has an identical function to Holon's Electrode. See above for its potential. Magneton is Pokémon #082 in the Pokédex. ...

Mewtwo 'Delta' rearranges Energy around to the player's choice when put into play. It has been suggested that Mewtwo (Anime) be merged into this article or section. ...

Porygon2 has a Poké-Power "Backup" that lets the user draw cards until he or she has six cards in his or her hand. Porygon2 (ポリゴン2 Polygon TsÅ« in Japanese, also called Porygon2 in German and French) is a fictional character of the Pokémon franchise. ...

Salamence 'Delta' can perform an attack for 100 damage while discarding 1 Metal Energy. Under normal circumstances, this seems like a small threat, since there is a limit of four Metal Energy per deck. However, it can be used in conjunction with the Stadium card Holon Research Tower, whose effects (see above) let it discard any basic Energy than just Metal Energy. Salamence (Boomander ボーマンダ Bōmanda in Japanese, Brutalanda in German and Drattak in French) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise. ...

Starmie 'Delta' has a Poké-Power called "Metal Navigation" that takes a Metal Energy from the deck onto Starmie 'Delta.' Because it also has an attack that puts this Metal Energy into the player's hand, Starmie 'Delta' can be used to quickly acquire all of the Metal Energy in a deck. Starmie (スターミー Sutaamii in Japanese, Starmie in German and Staross in French) is a fictional character of the Pokémon franchise. ...

Vaporeon ex, when played from the hand, forces the opponent to shuffle his or her hand back into the deck and draw four cards. This is particularly useful if the opponent has many cards before Vaporeon ex is played. Vaporeon (シャワーズ Showers in Japanese, Aquana in German, and Aquali in French) is a fictional species of the Pokémon franchise. ...
