The Eagle Awards are the name given to a series of awards for comic book titles and creators. They are awarded by UK fans who vote for who they feel are the best in each catagory of the awards. A comic book is a magazine or book containing the art form of comics. ...


They are named after the fondly remembered 1950's comic title Eagle and originated in 1976 thanks to two British fans, Mike Conroy ( now part of the staff of Comics International ) and Richard Burton. The awards did disappear for a time, replaced briefly with the National Comics Award, in 2000 they returned as an event at that years Comic Festival ( which had replacedUKCAC ) presented by Simon Pegg. First introduced in 1969 and awarded by the National Eagle Scout Association, the award consists of a gold eagle medallion, identical to the silver medallion on the Eagle Scout medal, but is suspended off of a red, white, and blue neck ribbon as opposed to the scroll pin and ribbon suspension on the regular medal.
This award is similar to the Presidential Medal of Freedom with Distinction, and when worn for Eagle Scout-related ceremonies, the Distinguished Eagle Scout medal is worn in place of the regular Eagle Scout medal.
