The title of Earl of Cromartie was created in 1861 for the Duchess of Sutherland, with a remainder to her second son.


The Earl bears the subsidiary titles of Viscount Tarbat (1861), Baron McLeod of Castle Leod (1861) and Baron Castlehaven (1861), all in the Peerage of the UK.

  • Anne Hay-Mackenzie, 1st Countess of Cromartie (1828-1892)
  • Francis Leveson-Gower, 2nd Earl of Cromartie (1852-1893) (abeyant 1893)
  • Sibell Lilian Blunt-Mackenzie, 3rd Countess of Cromartie (1878-1962) (abeyance terminated 1895)
  • Roderick Grant Francis Blunt-Mackenzie, 4th Earl of Cromartie (1904-1989)
  • John Ruaridh Grant Mackenzie, 5th Earl of Cromartie (b. 1948)
