Earl of Jersey is a title in the Peerage of England. It was created in 1697 for the politician Edward Villiers, who had already been created Viscount Villiers of Dartford and Baron Villiers of Hoo in 1691, also in the Peerage of England. Villiers was the grandson of Sir Edward Villiers, elder half-brother of George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham, Christopher Villiers, 1st Earl of Anglesey and John Villiers, 1st Viscount Purbeck. Another member of the Villiers family was Thomas Villiers, 1st Earl of Clarendon. He was the second son of the second Earl of Jersey.
