The Village consists of a main street (the A182 road) with housing estates ether side. Its a relatively poor area with high unemployment levels. The village has changed little in the last 30 yesrs. The local area has some very nice villages, this is not one of them, but the locals are very friendly. By national standards the bus service through the village is excelent, with services to Newcastle-upon-Tyne and to Sunderland to the north and Hartlepool to the South. House prices are lower than the average for the area. It is possible to buy a 3 bedroom house in Easington Lane for $10000 - this also includes ownership rights to the 2 burnt out cars in the garden.
