East Auckland is an informal name given to the eastern portion of the Greater Auckland conurbation. It is under the juristriction of the Manukau City Council. Of the informal North, South, West, Central and East subdivisions of Auckland, the East is the smallest, least populated, and the only one not associated with a city council of its own. It is most closely associated with the suburb of Howick; in fact, the whole area is often called Howick, but East Auckland actually contains many other suburbs.
