East Franconian has elements of central German and Upper German. The same goes only for South Franconian German. East Franconian is one of the German dialects with the highest number of speakers. The scope of East Franconian is disputed, mainly in its extent in Eastern Germany and whether Nuremberg, the second-largest city of Bavaria is to be included. German is spoken primarily in Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, in two-thirds of Switzerland, in two-thirds of the South Tyrol province of Italy (in German, Südtirol), in the small East Cantons of Belgium, and in some border villages of the South Jutland County (Nordschleswig) of Denmark.
