Although it seems normal on the inside, some of the staff working in the hospital are peculiar. The relationships between them range from lustful affairs, to murderous plots to kill other members of staff. There appears to be very little in the way of the staff communicating with or even visiting patients unless they need to, and they spend most of their time in other activities. Apart from part-time courses in such activities as painting, the hospital has its own shop, a chapel, a canteen, a squash court and in one deleted scene, a florist. There is also a bar nearby. One member of staff, surgical registrar Dr. Caroline Todd, did have the idea of putting in an off-site smokers room in the hospital, but it was rejected.
