East Kent and West Kent are one-time traditional subdivisions of the English county of Kent, kept alive by the Association of the Men of Kent and Kentish Men: an organisation formed in 1913. The division apparently derives from the ethnic differences between the Jutish settlement of the east of the county and the Saxon presence in the west, although its origins are somewhat obscure. Residents of East Kent, those living south of the River Medway, are called 'Men of Kent', as opposed to residents of West Kent, who are known as 'Kentish Men'. The RSPCA East Kent Animal Centre is being built by the Kent, Isle of Thanet Branch to help animals in East Kent by taking in and rehoming hundreds of abandoned, unwanted and mistreated animals.
As well as caring for cats and dogs and other domestic animals, the new East Kent Animal Centre will be involved with the rehabilitation of wildlife, one example is an orphaned hedgehog, which after a period of care from the local RSPCA branches was subsequently released into the wild.
It is vital to the animals in East Kent that all phases of this Centre are completed, but to achieve this we need your support.
