East Pasadena is a census-designated place located in Los Angeles County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 6,045.


Geography

East Pasadena is located at 34°8'24" North, 118°4'40" West (34.140057, -118.077650)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛). 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,045 people, 2,038 households, and 1,502 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,768.2/km˛ (4,586.6/mi˛). There are 2,124 housing units at an average density of 621.3/km˛ (1,611.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 55.70% White, 2.55% Black or African American, 0.79% Native American, 20.03% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 14.43% from other races, and 6.45% from two or more races. 35.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 2,038 households out of which 34.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.0% are married couples living together, 10.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.3% are non-families. 21.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.95 and the average family size is 3.43.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.2 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $53,378, and the median income for a family is $61,531. Males have a median income of $50,208 versus $35,104 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $34,548. 9.4% of the population and 6.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.6% of those under the age of 18 and 4.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Pasadena is the main population and cultural center of the San Gabriel Valley.
Pasadena's role as a regional hub was cemented by numerous other events, among them the Tournament of Roses Parade, the construction and opening of Figueroa Street and the Pasadena Freeway and Harbor Freeway in the period from 1931 through the early 1960s, and the completion of the Los Angeles Metro Gold Line in 2003.
Pasadena is also home to the Tournament of Roses Parade, held each year on January 1 (unless that day is a Sunday, in which case the event is held on January 2).
