East preston is a large rural area to the East of what was the Town of Dartmouth at the time of its foundation. Currently it is a rural area within the Halifax Regional Municipality.It was located East of another area called Preston. At one time Preston was important as the source of market garden produce.East Preston also played an important roll in supplying produce from small farm holdings. The Area contains a large number of very popular lakes used for recreation.East Preston was predominately a Black Community in the early days but now with the demand for land and the growth of the City of Halifax many people have decided to join the Community.The Recreation Centre and the local Black Baptist Church provide the focus for the many Black families. A road exists that directly connects the two villages North Preston and East Preston. Just East of East Preston another fast growth is taking place around Porters Lake.Porters lake services as the nearest shopping district.
