Eau Claire is a city located in the west-central part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 61,704 as of the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Eau Claire County,[3] although a small portion of the city lies in neighboring Chippewa County. Eau Claire is the principal city the Eau Claire, Wisconsin Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a part of the Eau-Claire-Menomonie Combined Statistical Area. Phoenix park is the host of a weekly farmers market and open air concerts during summer months. Riverview Park is also a common summer swimming destination, as well as one of the local boat landings.   24. ^ UWEC's Special Collections and Archives, located on the fifth floor of McIntyre Library, houses an extensive collection of public records, books and collections relating to both the city and county of Eau Claire. In addition to vital records (birth, death and marriage) dating to 1907, there are also naturalization records, census records, and civil and circuit court records. These resources are very popular with local genealogists. Within the local history collection, there are books about immigration to the region, logging, church and cemetery records, reminiscences by local residents, city directories (1880-2005, excluding certain years), and more. Special Collections and Archives also houses numerous archives files which relate to the city of Eau Claire. There are University records, such as Chancellor's Files, department records, and course catalogues (1916-present). Furthermore, there are many collections which pertain to the logging and railway industries. Several collections document the experiences of local residents during the Civil War. There are also a number of collections comprised of material concerning the Ojibwa, including the large Veda Stone Collection.
