Ebrahim Poordavood (February 9 1885 - November 17 1968)),(also written as pourdavoud , Poordavoud) was born in Rasht. He is one of the greatest scholars of Iran during 20th century. Poordavood founded the School of Ancient Languages in 1924 in which he initiated a great research work on ancient languages, especially Avestan language, and ancient history. In 1945 Poordavood founded the Iranology Society and very soon he established the School of Iranology.

Poordavood had been awarded the highest academic honor by Germany in 1955,which had been granted to him by the German President.
