Eclipse Comics was an American comic book publisher, one of several influential "indendent" publishers during the 1980s. Eclipse was known for its eclectic mix of titles and products, and was the first comics company to publish trading cards. Many noteworthy creators got their start or did early work there, including Chuck Austen, Dan Brereton, Chuck Dixon, Mark Evanier, James Hudnall, Scott McCloud, Peter Milligan, Tim Truman, and Chris Ware. They are perhaps best known for their role in the publication history of the acclaimed and contested series Miracleman. History

The company was founded as Eclipse Enterprises by brothers Jan and Dean Mullaney in 1977. Eclipse published one of the first American graphic novels, Sabre (1978) by Don McGregor and Paul Gulacy. The company also had early success with the Sabre spinoff comic-book series, as well as with the detective series Ms. Tree. Eclipse moved from Staten Island, NY to Sonoma County, California in the early 1980s where it expanded operations under editor cat yronwode. In 1989, Eclipse lost most of its back-issue stock in a flood. The company ceased operations in the early 1990s. 1977 was a common year starting on Saturday (the link is to a full 1977 calendar). ... Comics2Film: Detectives, Inc. (1383 words)
A project that first started rolling around in the head of comic scribe Don McGregor in the 1960's is finally set to debut as a film at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego.
Although the movie was not originally intended for public release, interest in the comic changed that.
It was Eclipse that commissioned McGregor to adapt the screenplay as A Terror of Dying Dreams with artist Gene Colan.
