Boston.com / Business / German economic institutes trim forecast (508 words)
Germany's leading economic institutes on Tuesday trimmed their forecast for growth this year to 1.5 percent, saying weak consumer spending and high unemployment were still plaguing Europe's largest economy even as a moderate upswing takes hold.
The institutes backed off their 2004 prediction of 1.7 percent, made last October, noting that much of the growth will come not from any real improvement but from a calendar quirk that adds more working days this year.
The institutes are: the German Institute for Economic Research, Berlin, the Hamburg Institute of International Economics, the ifo Institute in Munich, the Kiel Institute of World Economics, the Halle Institute for Economic Research, and the RWI institute in Essen.
