Ecthelion is in J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth the seventeenth Ruling Steward of Gondor. He succeeded his father Orodreth at his death in T.A. 2685.


He rebuilt the White Tower in Minas Tirith, which afterwards carried his name.


Ecthelion has no children. He was followed by his cousin Egalmoth, the grandson of Orodreth's sister Morwen, at his death in 2698.

Ecthelion however knows none of these events after his supposed demise, only coming to within the Dragonfly Inn, and but in his mind he fresh and well remembers his beloved city, his lady Erinea, and that day when the flame and shadow came upon them.
