Ecuadorian centavo coins were introduced in 2000 when Ecuador converted its currency from the sucre to the US dollar. The coins are in denominations from 1 to 50 centavos and are identical in size and value to their US cent counterparts. They circulate within Ecuador alongside coins and banknotes from the USA. Unlike in the United States, the Sacagawea dollar is commonly found in circulation, although there is no Ecuadorian counterpart. Ecuador does not issue any banknotes. The sucre was the currency of Ecuador between 1884 and 2000. ... The United States dollar is the official currency of the United States. ...
