A lawyer, Komarnicki was elected into the Canadian House of Commons in the Canadian federal election, 2004 as the Conservative Party of Canada candidate in the riding of Souris—Moose Mountain. He was elected by nearly 3,000 votes over former premier Grant Devine who was running as an independent. Komarnicki is the official opposition critic of Labour and Housing. Komarnicki immediately launched into an attack on current Liberal administration for turning their backs on the agricultural industry and was the only one to direct comments specifically to the firearm registry issue, saying that the Conservatives would eliminate it if given a majority status in the House of Commons.
Komarnicki came out in support of day care centres, noting that the new Conservative plan did not mean that the concept was being attacked, but rather it would be supported, allowing for another 25,000 spaces for private or co-operative day care systems.
Komarnicki felt he had fielded some of it with his limited understanding of the language while the others admitted to their lack of knowledge about Canada's other official language, but all supported the advancement of other cultures and languages whether they were official or not.
