Edelaraudtee is an Estonianrail transport company, founded in 1997. It is mainly known for its dieseltrains, which run on Tallinn-Pärnu, Tallinn-Tartu, Tallinn-Narva, Tartu-Valga and Tartu-Orava routes. The railway company GB Railways bought Edelaraudtee in 2000 when it was privatised.
Freight operations are handled by Czech-built ChME3 diesel shunters, while passenger services are provided by around twenty DR1A and DR1B diesel multiple units.
Estonia's Edelaraudtee (Southwest Railways) and the Transport and Communications Ministry agreed on Tuesday to set up a joint working group to draw up a long-term plan for subsidies to passenger rail traffic.
Edelaraudtee presented its proposals to the government last month.
Edelaraudtee has also announced that if the government will not accept the company's proposals concerning ways to maintain train traffic, it will fire 228 workers.
