Eden Shale Hills is a broad area of short, but very steep hills in the outer Bluegrass Region of Kentucky. They occur generally from around Oldham County in the East to Fleming County in the West. OWENTON, Ky. (July 7, 2004) EdenShale Research Farm began in 1953 when some Owen County farmers were talking about needing agricultural research applicable to the areas unique typography and soil, according to O. Hawkins, a spry 91-year-old who helped establish the farm and was its first manager from 1955 to 1978.
The name EdenShale is a combination of the soil type that dominates the EdenHills region, with Owen County in the center, and shale-type rock common to the region.
