Encyclopedia > Edenfield

Edenfield is an upland village in the southern part of the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire in England. It is 1.25 miles north of Ramsbottom and 2.5 miles south of Rawtenstall. The landscape of the area is dominated by Dearden Moor and Scout Moor directly to the east and Holcombe Moor with the Peel Monument, across the river valley to the west. The village centre lies at the intersection of three principal roads - the A676 from Bolton, the A680 from Accrington & Rochdale and the A56 from Rawtenstall & Bury. Although developing as mainly residential in recent times, the area has an industrial past and some quarrying activities still continue. The Parish Church is unusual in that it takes its name from the village rather than being dedicated to a particular saint.
