Edgewood is a village located in Effingham County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 527.

Geography

Edgewood is located at 38°55'24" North, 88°39'45" West (38.923302, -88.662433)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.99% is water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 527 people, 226 households, and 148 families residing in the village. The population density is 203.5/km² (525.3/mi²). There are 242 housing units at an average density of 93.4/km² (241.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 99.81% White, 0.00% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 226 households out of which 33.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% are non-families. 29.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.86.

In the village the population is spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.1 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $20,987, and the median income for a family is $31,875. Males have a median income of $27,500 versus $21,083 for females. The per capita income for the village is $12,338. 16.7% of the population and 16.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 20.5% of those under the age of 18 and 12.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
