Edith Lefel is a singer born in Cayenne, Guyana in 1963. She grew up in Martinique and has become a popular zouk-love singer. Her popular career began in 1964, when she worked with Jean-Michel Cabrimol's Maffia. She began working with the big band Malavoi in 1987. Her most recent album came out in 2002, and used elements of [[beguine], mazurka and merengue. Cayenne is the capital of the French overseas région of French Guiana. ... The Mafia, also referred to in Italian as Cosa Nostra, which is generally translated this thing of ours in the Italian language, is an organized criminal secret society which evolved in mid-19th century Sicily. ... The mazurka (Polish: mazurek, likely named after Polands Mazury district) is a Polish folk dance in triple time with a lively tempo, containing a heavy accent on the third or second beat. ... Biography - Edith LEFEL (1526 words)
Edith certainly went on to live up to her name, causing what can only be described as a seismic reaction when she exploded onto the international music scene in her 20s and staked her claim to join the clan of new zouk divas.
Edith, who would go on to become one of the leading female voices of the new zouk movement, began her musical apprenticeship in her teens, performing in concert with her elder brother.
Edith was to have taken her new album to the stage at the start of 2003, performing a series of concerts featuring her new songs.
