Edmundo Desnoes is a renowned Cuban writer, author of the novel Memorias del Subdesarrollo ("Memories of Underdevelopment"), a complex story depicting the alienation of a Cuban bourgeois struggling to adapt to the process of the Revolution. The book was adapted into a seminal Latin American film by the late director Tomás Gutiérrez Alea in 1968. During the 1960s and 1970s he also performed as an art critic and wrote many essays.
