Edge enters the plot of Final Fantasy IV late in the game, when Cecil Harvey, Rosa Farrell, Kain Highwind, and Rydia are traveling through Cave Eblan to reach the Tower of Babil. They first see Edge being defeated in a battle with the Fire Devil Rubicant. Because Cecil and the rest are after Rubicant as well, Edge - who becomes completely taken with Rydia - joins the party. In the Tower of Babil, Edge finds his parents turned into demons by Dr. Lugae and is forced to fight them. After the King and Queen's defeat, Edge takes his anger out by killing Rubicant. When he learns that Rubicant was under the leadership of Golbez, he permanently joins the party.

Edge remains with Cecil for the rest of his journey (Edge is the only character besides Cecil who never leaves the party once he joins), helping him steal enemy airships, collect Crystals, and in the end helping him defeat Zemus - the wizard who was using his power to manipulate Golbez. // Square Co. ...

After saving the world, Edge becomes King of Eblan, and is forbidden to court women by his grandfather. Edge still longs for Rydia, who lives in the Land of Summons after the defeat of Zemus.
