Edge enters the plot of Final Fantasy IV late in the game, when Cecil Harvey, Rosa Farrell, Kain Highwind, and Rydia are traveling through Cave Eblan to reach the Tower of Babil. They first see Edge being defeated in a battle with the Fire Devil Rubicant. Because Cecil and the rest are after Rubicant as well, Edge - who becomes completely taken with Rydia - joins the party. When he learns that Rubicant was under the leadership of Golbez, he permanently joins the party.
