American Idol incident
The singer made headlines when many fans noticed that American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry seemed to be duplicating Kowalczyk's vocal style and appearance (Kowalczyk is known for his shaved head). Such accusations gained even more ground when Daughtry performed a noticibly darker version of "I Walk the Line" by Johnny Cash on a telecast of American Idol. Immediately, many noticed this version was extremely similar to one done by Kowalczyk and his bandmates of Live years earlier. A publicity firestorm soon erupted, with fans and the media bashing Daughtry for failing to credit Live for writing that version of the song. However, any animosity was quelled, at least publicly, when it was discovered that Daughtry had in fact credited the band, only to have the section cut from the American Idol show, and also when Live performed with Chris Daughtry on the season finale of American Idol.
