Encyclopedia > Edward L. Davison

Edward Lewis Davison (1898-?) was a Scottish poet and critic, born in Glasgow. He emigrated to the USA and became an academic at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he was involved in the Colorado Writers 1937 conference. The poet Peter Davison is his son.


He was widely published as a poets in the 1920s, featuring in the J. C. Squire anthologies, and became known as a writer of sonnets. He was published in Poems by Four Authors (1923) with J. R. Ackerley, A. Y. Campbell, and Frank Kendon. He compiled Cambridge Poets 1914-1920: an Anthology (1920), and wrote Some Modern Poets And Other Critical Essays (1928). His Collected Poems 1917-1939 was published in 1940. Other collections were Poems (1920), Harvest of Youth (1926, New York), and The Ninth Witch (1932).


His Be Thou At Peace has been set to music by John Raynor.
