Edward Sutton, 5th Baron Dudley (1567-1643) inherited the lordship of Dudley from his father, also Edward Sutton, and was the last of his name to bear the title. He was married to Theodosia Harrington. They had at last one child, Ann Sutton, who married Richard Eltonhead (1582-1664). Anne and Richard's daughter, Alice (1627-1685) married Henry Corbin. They had a daughter, Laetitia (1657-1706) who married Sir Richard Lee (1644-1714). EdwardDudley, was the son of John Sutton, 3rd BaronDudley and Lady Cicely Grey.
Edward succeeded his father, John 3rd lord Dudley, (d.1553) as BaronDudley, and was the grandson of Edmund Sutton Knight of Dudley castle and Baron Tibertot and Cherleton (b 1425).
Dudley has been named as the illegitimate son of EdwardSutton, 5thBaronDudley of Dudley Castle, and grandson of EdwardSutton, 4th BaronDudley.
Dudley modified his furnace to accommodate the new process, but the quantity of iron initially produced was reduced to about three tons a week from each furnace.
Dudley proceeded with the manufacture of iron at Pensnett, and Cradley in Staffordshire, and a year after the patent was granted he was able to send a considerable quantity of the new iron for trial to the Tower of London.
