Among his accomplishments is a complete edition of the trumpet works of the Bolognese Baroque Italian composer Giuseppe Torelli. He was director of the Trumpet Museum in Bad Säckingen, Germany from 1985 to 2004, taught modern and Baroque trumpet at the Basel Music Academy (with Schola Cantorum Basiliensis) from 1972 to 2001 and is presently teaching Baroque trumpet in the superior conservatories (Musikhochschulen) of Karlsruhe, Frankfurt, and Lucerne. Edward H. Tarr was born in America, lived for nearly 20 years in Switzerland, and is now residing in Germany.
Tarr taught at the prestigious pioneering institute for research and performance in early music, the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, as well as at the Basel Conservatory of Music (Baroque and modern trumpet, respectively) in Switzerland, and is presently teaching at the Karlsruhe Conservatory (Musikhochschule).
As a teacher Tarr has had unusual success: the winners of the International Music Competition of the German radio stations (ARD) in Munich in 1986 and 1993, and both first prizewinners of the 1st and 2nd International Altenburg Competitions for Baroque trumpet (1996, 2001), were his pupils.
