Edwardsburg is a village located in Cass County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,147.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.6 km˛ (1.0 mi˛). 2.4 km˛ (0.9 mi˛) of it is land and 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 8.91% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,147 people, 507 households, and 319 families residing in the village. The population density is 481.4/km˛ (1,244.3/mi˛). There are 531 housing units at an average density of 222.8/km˛ (576.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 94.94% White, 0.17% African American, 2.35% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 1.92% from two or more races. 0.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 507 households out of which 30.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.8% are married couples living together, 13.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% are non-families. 31.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.78.


In the village the population is spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.9 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $33,359, and the median income for a family is $37,132. Males have a median income of $32,969 versus $21,319 for females. The per capita income for the village is $18,842. 11.3% of the population and 8.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 13.9% of those under the age of 18 and 8.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
