Two years later, Boyd was the nation's most notorious bandit and the leader of a group known as "The Boyd Gang".
Edwin Boyd, who had not been present at the murder, was sentenced to eight life terms plus twenty-seven year concurrent.
Boyd was released in 1966 on lifetime parole, and moved to the west coast of Canada where he re-married.

The son of a Toronto policeman, Boyd hoboed across the country as a youth and had minor scrapes with the law during the Depression of the 1930s.
