Encyclopedia > Edwin Ernest Salpeter

Edwin Ernest Salpeter (born December 3, 1924) is an Austrian-Australian-American astronomer.


He emigrated from Austria to Australia while in his teens. He has been at Cornell University since 1948.


He won the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1973, the Henry Norris Russell Lectureship in 1974, and the Bruce Medal in 1987. He won the Crafoord Prize in 1997.
