Because they symbolize man's battle against the sea and are relatively rare, provincial authorities designated them "geological monuments" in June 2005.[1] Afsluitdijk The Afsluitdijk (Closure-dike) is a major dam in the Netherlands, constructed between 1927 and 1933 and running from Den Oever on Wieringen in North Holland province, to the village of Zurich (mun. ... Gemeente Eemnes - (843 words)
The municipality of Eemnes is located in the very heart of the Netherlands, in the 'Eemland' district in the north of the province of Utrecht.
Eemnes has been part of the province of Utrecht ever since, notwithstanding several further disputes (and battles) over the border in the 14th and 15th centuries.
The Eemnes 'polder' - first reclaimed in the 13th and 14th centuries - still exists and is deemed by more than a few to provide for one of the most characteristic and beautiful of the Dutch polder landscapes.
