Two kilometres north of Eggesin the rivers Randow and Uecker meet - the town probably owes its name to that: "Eggesin" is of Slavic origin and means "confluence".
Eggesin was first mentioned in 1216, when it was conferred to the monastery Kloster Grobe on the island of Usedom.
In 1952 Eggesin became a garrison of the national army of the GDR, the NVA, and later of the German Federal Armed Forces.
