The Eglinton West subway was a proposed east-west subway line in Toronto, Canada. It was to start from the existing Eglinton West station on the Toronto Transit Commission's Yonge-University-Spadina line. Work began in the 1990s, but halted in 1995 when the newly-elected Government of Ontario cancelled the project. The excavation under Eglinton West intended to be Allen Station was subsequently filled in. Eglinton West Between Eglinton West and Renforth The Eglinton West subway is no longer a priority of the TTC. Its expansion priorities are instead the extension of the Spadina subway to York University and Steeles Avenue, the replacement of the aging Scarborough RT system, the extension of the Sheppard subway to Victoria Park Avenue and Scarborough City Centre, and improvements to major bus and streetcar routes to create a network of "surface rapid transit" routes (including on Eglinton Avenue). Petition This would be a valuable and time saving extension, especially for people living, working, studying in this newly incorporated area. Also factors as increased gas prices, traffic, and others caused the increase of TTC use in residential areas. Eglinton West expansion would be a strategic step towards increasing TTC use and saving the environment. This would save a lot of unnecessary traffic, emissions and money for traveling to Toronto Pearson International Airport, and with plans to demolish Gardiner Highway this would be a step forward. The north of the city will benefit greatly economically, as a new travel mode will be introduced for costumers of the local businesses on the way, as well north, which is virtually inaccessible to TTC using people, as the buses are slow(i.e. Woodbine Race Track). Buses cause major traffic issues on Eglinton Bussway, which can be diverted. This would also bring costumers from Peel Region, which would be a huge benefit for local economy and job market. If North York deserves Sheppard Subway, Etobicoke certainly deserves Eglinton West subway line.
