Born Eileen Otte in Great Neck, New York she loved to read, particularly about fashion and travel. Starting as a model herself she soon found that her acumen was for business and recognizing the look that would photograph well. A straight nose, wide-set eyes, and a long neck. Great Neck is a village located in Nassau County, New York in the USA, on the North Shore of Long Island. ...

Her story has been told in Good Housekeeping and in 1968, Life in November 1970 and Ladies Home Journal in 1971 among many others. She appeared in the 1997 film Scratch the Surface about a teen model turned documentary film-maker, Tara Fitzpatrick's examination of the fashion industry and in Intimate Portrait: Eileen Ford in 1999 and again in Celebrity Profile: Brooke Shields in 2001. Ford stood unsuccessfully for Antrim Borough Council in 1989, and entered politics full-time when be became general secretary of the Alliance Party.
Ford gave Alliance a stability which it had lacked since the departure of John Alderdice, but the Party had declined seriously in the late 1990s and all Ford could do was stabilise the situation.
In the Northern Ireland Assembly Elections of 2003, Ford's seat in the Assembly was perceived to be under severe threat from Sinn Féin's Martin Meehan, with many commentators expecting him to lose it.
