The obvious difference between ein deutsches album and the standard Peter Gabriel (1980) album, is that Gabriel redid all of his vocals in German. Since the vocals were overdubbed on top of the instrumental and backing vocal tracks, there is no other sonic difference between the two albums. The German lyrics are more or less straight translations from the English. Two years later, Gabriel's second German album, deutsches album (1982), would be a significantly altered version of Peter Gabriel (IV)(a.k.a. Security) (1982).
