Ferrol is a Galizan town near A Coruña. Ferrol is best known for the IZAR shipyard. The town was the birthplace of Spanish generalissimo Francisco Franco, and was officially known as El Ferrol del Caudillo from 1938 to 1982.

Ferrol, the most important Naval Station in the north of Spain [9], with its well sheltered harbour and busy port, together with the NAVANTIA shipyards seems to be flourishing once again, and with it, the whole heavily populated district of Las Mariñas and Ferrolterra.
In the 17th century, ElFerrol was the most important arsenal in Europe, and, to day, it is a key seaport, industrial and urban centre in the very heavy populated district of Las Mariñas.
