Retired to stud El Gran Senor evidenced fertility problems from the outset. Veternarians were able to overcome the problem for a time and of the foals he sired, a high percentage were stakes winners (13.3%). However, the fertility problems continued and after siring 55 Graded stakes race winners he was finally pensioned at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Kentucky in 2000. El Gran Senor died on Oct.18, 2006 due to the infirmities of old age. El Gran Senor also scored a major win in that year's General Accident Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) at a mile and finished a close second to Northern Dancer's son Secreto in the 1 1/2-mile Ever Ready Epsom Derby (Eng-I) after one of the most tenacious battles in Derby history.
At the end of the season, El Gran Senor was assigned highweight in the English miler category, but wasn't even weighted in the 1 1/2-mile division.

At times El Baile Alemán was jarring in its impeccable transformation of the minimalist German techno into more enlivened Latin rhythms, at others laugh-aloud funny because of the utter misshapen eccentricity of the entire project.
While, again, I'm sure that Schmidt's tongue is planted firmly in cheek at times, the opening to "El Coco Baile" is frenetic senselessness (reminding me of the worst of Pizzicato Five with a dollop of Latin) that smacks of an all-inclusive vacation in Cancún rather than an inspired trip to the mountains of Chile.
El Gran Baile, in the end, is useful to those who became addicted to El Baile Alemán.
