Originally called El Observador Creole (its original sponsor was The Creole Oil Company, hence the name), it began service on November 16, 1953 (the day after Radio Caracas Television was inaugurated), and was presented by Francisco Amado Pernia. Twenty years later, El Observador Creole changed its name to El Observador Venezolano. In the early 1980's, it became known as just El Observador.
