Elah was a son of Baasha, who succeeded him as king of Israel. Albright has dated his reign to 877 - 876 BC, while Thiele offers the dates 886 - 885 BC.


Chapter 16 of 1 Kings relates how Elah was murdered by his chariot commander Zimri, who became his successor.
