Elbridge is a village located in the Town of Elbridge in Onondaga County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,103.


The Village of Elbridge is located near the center of the town at the junction of Routes 5 and 31C.


Geography

Elbridge is located at 43°2'3" North, 76°26'35" West (43.034266, -76.443282)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.7 km˛ (1.0 mi˛). None of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,103 people, 427 households, and 321 families residing in the village. The population density is 405.6/km˛ (1,052.2/mi˛). There are 445 housing units at an average density of 163.6/km˛ (424.5/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 97.28% White, 0.09% Black or African American, 0.54% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.18% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. 1.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 427 households out of which 33.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.6% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.8% are non-families. 21.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.00.


In the village the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 99.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.7 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $44,712, and the median income for a family is $49,539. Males have a median income of $36,750 versus $27,321 for females. The per capita income for the village is $21,376. 4.8% of the population and 3.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.9% of those under the age of 18 and 5.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

What is now the Village of Elbridge, New York, population about 1200,located on NYS Route 5 about 15 miles west of the City of Syracuse,was once a wooded wilderness crossed by Indian trails.
Following the Revolution (1775-83), Central New York was divided into military tracts that were to be given to veterans of that war, in lieu of payment for their services.
The Elbridge Village Historic District encompassing sixty acres of land upon which lie more than sixty buildings and structures of various character along East and West Main Street, was placed on both the State of New York and National Registers of Historic Places in 2002.

Elbridge asserted that as a matter of the 1985 contract between Elbridge and Jordan and a 1986 amendment to it, as well as upon equitable grounds, Elbridge was entitled to have an increased rate fixed retroactively for the 1985-90 period as well as a current rate for the period of 1990-95.
Elbridge estimates the allocation to be 5% and Jordan estimates it to be 2%.
Elbridge alleges underpayment by Jordan and Jordan alleges overpayment to Elbridge.
